At the 2024 Paris Paralympics, Sheetal Devi, a 17-year-old para-archer from India, has captured global attention with her extraordinary performances and unique technique. Born without arms due to the congenital condition phocomelia, Sheetal shoots arrows using her legs, shoulder, and jaw, a skill that has made her one of the standout athletes of the games.

During the Women’s Individual Compound Open event, Sheetal showcased her prowess by breaking a world record in the qualifying round, scoring an impressive 703 out of 720 points. This performance secured her a second-place finish, setting high expectations for her subsequent matches.

However, in a nail-biting pre-quarterfinal match, Sheetal faced Chile’s Mariana Zuniga. Despite a strong start and an overall excellent performance, she narrowly lost the match by one point (137-138), which ended her chances of winning an individual medal at these games.

Sheetal’s journey at the Paralympics isn’t over yet, as she will compete in the mixed team event with her partner Rakesh Kumar, where they are seeded at the top. The duo will be a team to watch in the upcoming matches.
